Reflection Two

In reflection of this week, I am pleased with my article I wrote considering the time we had.

Firstly, I believe that the article itself was put together and written in a professional way.

For example, using skills learnt in the last couple of years, I managed to put together the piece quickly – something that I have noticeably improved on recently. I came to the session with my photos and quotes ready – which meant I could piece these together to form the article easily, proving that I have developed good journalism skills.

I also followed the ‘inverted pyramid’ structure and put the most important information at the top of the article, and the less important information towards the bottom – another journalism skill I have learnt to apply in my work.

Although I could have improved on some things, I believe I did the following well:

  • I am happy with the quotes that I got
  • I think the article reads well
  • I tried to make it sound interesting and professional

Despite this, I would have done a number of things differently. If I were given this task again, I would have tried to follow the task more accurately, representing a ‘day in the life’ – rather than just putting together a general piece about the shop owner because it was rather vague, and was almost like an profile piece.

However, to counteract this I changed the headline to make it more relevant to the piece I’d written, and despite not following the brief as accurately as I’d liked, I do believe the article makes sense and the new headline makes for an interesting piece.

To conclude, I am still enjoying the module a lot. I am definitely looking forward to the next few weeks, where we will start to work on our photography skills and hopefully learn more about the photojournalism industry.
