Reflection Five

In reflection of this week’s task, I am incredibly proud with how I handled and executed both the technical and confidence issues that I faced.

Firstly, I thought that the task started off well, with myself having a lot of good ideas and not wasting any time in getting out and finding someone straight away to talk to.

However, due to my lack of preparation, I encountered a technical difficulty when photographing my subject – resulting in only being able to take ONE photo of him. 😦

I was very disappointed – despite the one image being one that I am very proud of (see below).

Apart from this technical difficulty, I am proud of the image and the quotes that I managed to get and I was back in the classroom fairly quickly having completed the task efficiently.

This is largely down to the fact that once I realised I could only capture one image of my subject, I kept retaking and deleting the photo until I got one that I was happy with. I am proud of the final one I chose: I think the bustle of the city behind him is out of focus enough to make him the centre of attention and to stop distraction, however it is in focus enough for the viewer to understand how he is very much right in the middle of everything.

I am also pleased with how I followed my own advice from week one (see my reflection here) and went out alone to complete the task, rather than in a pair. I managed to crack on straight away and had plenty of time and did not feel rushed. This is something I will be sure to carry on in the week’s to come.

I think I have realised that although I work well with other people, I tend to work better by myself rather than in pairs. This is something I will be conscious of in the weeks to come.

Despite my efficiency and professionalism when completing the task, the technical difficulty with my SD cards meant that I only had one photo to show for my week’s task that I thought I had handled very well. This was quite disappointing for me!

Because of this, I decided to spend the last week doing the same task a couple more times, this time in my home city of Sheffield.

I am now very proud that I managed to get more photos and stories (see the post here).

In conclusion, I am now proud of how I worked through the fifth weekly task, despite facing some challenges to begin with.

I am however happy that these technical difficulties have already been dealt with, as it means I have learnt from them and will hopefully not repeat my mistakes in my big photojournalism project.

I now look forward to the post-production process that we will be learning about next week.

Aims for this week:

  • Publish post on my ideas for my final project
  • DECIDE what to do my project on
