This pitch is in the event that my first idea doesn’t go to plan. I am very interested in both and am excited to pursue either, however this is just my second choice. My first idea is a little far-fetched so in the event of it not happening, I will do this idea instead.

Here is my second finalised pitch:
//HEADLINE – SOCIAL CLIMBERS: A WEEK IN THE UK’S CLIMBING CAPITAL //
Or
//HEADLINE – CHASING HEIGHTS: A WEEK IN THE UK’S CLIMBING CAPITAL //
The feature would look at indoor climbing, the benefits of it and why it is becoming more and more popular in the UK. In recent years, indoor climbing such as bouldering has grown massively in popularity. For example, next week the largest indoor climbing centre in the UK will be opening its door in Sheffield – a city that already has three major indoor climbing gyms. In addition to this, climbing is going to debut as a sport in the 2020 Olympics.
The feature will explore why more people are starting to climb and the benefits it has. I will be speaking to a number of climbers and speaking to them why they are a part of the climbing community.
I would be interviewing people on the reasons they climb and what benefits they believe it has on a person. I’ll also be touching on the popularity of it too, asking about the introduction to the Olympics and the opening of yet another indoor gym in Sheffield.
I want to take a mixture of photos, including both portraits and candid shots.
I have already been in contact with one of the indoor climbing centre in Sheffield, the Climbing Works, and I have permission from them to spend some time there and take some photos. I am also going to contact some other people in the next few days, world-class climbers, owners of climbing walls etc.
The feature will be 2000-2500 words total, but include around 10-12 images that I will create. I suggest it to be picture-heavy as to capture the emotion and humanity of the piece since I will be including a lot of personal accounts and stories in the feature.
If you’re interested, I will turn this around by Monday 13th May.
