Over the last few weeks I have been brainstorming a couple of ideas for my final photojournalism project. I have two ideas because although my first idea is very newsworthy and I am very passionate about it, it may not be realistic. Therefore I have prepared a second idea in case I cannot carry out the first ideas.
Here is my first finalised pitch:
//HEADLINE – Magic Majid: the last thirty days//
This article would look at the Lord Mayor of Sheffield – Majid Majid – and his last thirty days in office. It will also look back at the impact he has had on the city of Sheffield and the things he has accomplished in the last year.
I would be shadowing Magic Majid for the last few days of his time as Mayor – whether this is his last week or a few days a week throughout his last month. Speaking with him, following his last duties and photographing both portraits and candid shots of him.
I have already been in contact with his office and the Mayor has asked that my email be passed on to his personal address, and so I am waiting to hear back from him.
In addition to the Mayor himself, I will be speaking to some notable people in the city about the effect he has had over the course of the year. As he is quite a controversial character, I will be sure to include both people in favour and against his actions.
The feature will be 2000-2500 words total, but include around 10-12 images that I will create. I suggest it to be picture-heavy as to capture the emotion and humanity of the piece since I will be including a lot of personal accounts and stories in the feature. I will also include graphics such as timelines and screenshots of social media posts.
If you’re interested, I will turn this around by Monday 13th May.
***UPDATE***
Unfortunately, this pitch did not happen. Luckily, I prepared a second pitch and have started working on that instead.
